If you are considering building your Coupe using an 87 to 93 V8 Mustang you will need to find a car that can supply the following parts in good  or rebuildable condition.

 

 

Major Components

 

Ø      Engine and transmission assembly

Ø      Driveshaft

Ø      Ford 8.8” rear end assembly w/quad-shocks, springs and control arms

Ø      Ford front and rear brake assemblies, w/master cylinder

Ø      Ford front wheel spindles and lower control arm

 

Minor Components

 

Ø      Ford Mustang steering rack (w/factory ignition for 87-93 cars)

Ø      Ford EFI computer and wire harness (or use aftermarket)

Ø      Ford fuel tank, and fuel filter

Ø      Ford emergency brake handle and pedal box
 

Other

 

Ø      Paint

Ø      Wheels

Ø      Tires

Ø      Battery

If you choose your donor carefully you can save several thousand dollars on the overall build cost verses going the no donor, all new parts route. This includes replacing all wear items such as brake linings and pads etc.

 

Essentially you are trading your labour in cleaning up and refurbishing the parts against draining your wallet to buy all new shiny parts.  Having personally built two MK III Roadsters using Donor parts I can tell you that the end result is indistinguishable from  building a car using all new parts. Indeed there is a certain satisfaction in reviewing the before and after photos on your build album that you cannot achieve by taking new parts out of boxes.

 

Bottom line – If your budget is limited, going the donor build route is a very viable option.
